SBGHC RECEIVES $1.8M IN INFRASTRUCTURE RENEWAL FUNDING

On January 27, Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker visited South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s (SBGHC) Durham site to announce $1.8M in Health Infrastructure Renewal Funding (HIRF) for the multi-site hospital organization in 2019/20. HIRF funding is one-time capital funding for repairing and maintaining hospital buildings and infrastructure.

“This is the second consecutive year that SBGHC has received a significant capital investment from the Government of Ontario to ensure the infrastructure of our hospital sites can continue to meet the needs of the patients we serve,” says Michael Barrett, SBGHC President and CEO. “SBGHC intends to use this funding on various projects at all four of our sites, with the largest project being the installation of a sprinkler system at our Durham site to meet the requirement for all hospitals to have full sprinkler systems by 2025.”

SBGHC received $2.75M in HIRF funding in 2018/19 that was invested in the Chesley hospital to replace the facility’s air handling units and install a sprinkler system throughout the building. In past years, HIRF funding has been invested at other SBGHC sites, including the replacement of the boilers, chiller and generator in Kincardine in 2017, and in 2018, a substantial asbestos abatement in 14 locations throughout the Walkerton site.

“We thank the Government of Ontario for making these important investments in our hospitals,” says John Gilbert, SBGHC Board Chair.

Directors from the Durham and Community Health Care Foundation present South Bruce Grey Health Centre and Durham Hospital staff with a cheque for $111,633.74 to pay for the new digital imaging upgrade to the hospitals x-ray equipment. This new technology provides clearer images, almost immediate results, less exposure to radiation, ease of transmitting images to specialists and faster diagnosis and treatment.

With this recent donation, the Foundation has donated over $1 million to the Durham Hospital since 2005 to fund purchases of medical, lab and diagnostic equipment. It is heart-warming to see how a small-town community can come together to raise this amount of money for local health care.

Some of the equipment purchased includes a pediatric crash cart, IV pumps, holter monitors, and cardiac monitors and defibrillators.

Many thanks to the donors, partners, sponsors and volunteers over the years who have made this milestone possible. Your commitment to local health care has been so important to ensuring a well-equipped hospital for your families and friends, today and tomorrow.

Casino Royale Gala raises over $42,000 for Durham Hospital!

hospital-gala-september-2016-21-of-119

Many thanks to all who supported the Casino Royale Gala.  These include the volunteers, sponsors and  donors, those who provided so many great auction items or donated,         prepared and served food, the wine and beer brewers and vintners, band members and all the others who made the evening a success.

Generous help and support from people and business is critical to the success of  all fund-raising. Without this help, area hospitals,   including the Durham Hospital would not be able to purchase new equipment or provide high quality medical care to area  residents.

Funds raised at the Gala will purchase two cardiac defibrillators for the Durham Hospital. These defibrillators and monitors are critical in cardiac emergencies and can make the difference  between life and death.

A lively Fund-a Need event at the Gala helped purchase a Holter Monitor for people undergoing cardio-respiratory testing.  This small but mighty machine can make a big difference in detecting cardiac issues before they reach critical levels.

The Durham Hospital serves over 14,000 area residents from Durham, Holstein,  Neustadt, Ayton, all of West Grey, a large part of Southgate and visitors to the area.  It has a well-equipped  24/7 Emergency Department, on-site  Diagnostic Imaging and a helipad to evacuate critical emergencies.

Thanks to donors, the Durham Hospital is equipped with state-of–the-art equipment, patient care items and a new lab.  These attract and keep skilled doctors and nurses in the area.   “You never know when you will need great care, but will be grateful, when you do!”

Many thanks to these generous sponsors:   Municipality of West Grey, Baseline Constructors Inc.,  Cedarwell  Excavating, McLeans’s Home Hardware, Viking-Cives Ltd., Wallenstein Feed Mill, Sandy Hamilton Heating and Plumbing, Bi-Tech Contracting Inc., D.E. Schutz Sand & Gravel, Pratt Heating and Plumbing, Remedy’s Rx, West Grey Chamber of  Commerce, RC Concrete Services, Century 21 Cedar Glen Ltd., West Grey Premium Beef Inc., McFarlane Health Facility Ltd.

Wow! What a night that was! Thanks so much to all those who came out to the Grape Escape and supported the Durham Hospital. Congratulations to the entire GE committee- the decor was beautiful, the food was delicious and plentiful, there were enough great auction items to appeal to everyone’s wallet and tastes, and excellent variety in wine, cider and beer.

Congratulations and thanks too, to the amazing donors who provided food and beverages, auction and décor items, those who bought tickets knowing they could not attend, and those who bought tickets and did attend, all those who bid on and won auction items and especially to those who dug deep at the end of the night and purchased the Pediatric Crash Cart outright (you know who you are!) and almost enough to purchase 2 IV Pumps through their last-minute donations!

While the final tally is not known yet, we do know that we not only reached our budget- we blew right past it!!!!
